Walmart decided that rather than just selling gaming hardware from other manufacturers, it’s going to enter the arena itself. From November, you’ll be able to pick from a range of three gaming laptops and three gaming desktops offered under the brand Overpowered.
Rather than going it alone, Walmart decided to partner with Esports Arena who handled the design of the new systems. Esports Arena is the first dedicated esports facility in North America and will no doubt be hoping to use the Overpowered hardware extensively.
The three Overpowered laptops are called the OP Gaming Laptop 15, the 15+ and the 17+. The 15 is the lowest spec model and costs $ 999. For that you get a 144Hz 15.6-inch display, Core i5-8300H CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU with 2GB VRAM, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, and 128GB SSD. It runs Windows 10 and uses a mechanical RGB LED keyboard.
The Best Gaming Desktops
The Op Gaming Laptop 15+ improves on the spec by using a Core i7-8750H CPU, GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD. That extra performance and storage pushes the price up to $ 1,399. Finally, we have the 17-inch model, which enjoys the same CPU and GPU as the 15+, but increases the RAM to 32GB and the hard drive to 2TB. The screen is also a larger 17.3-inch 144Hz panel. Expect to pay $ 1,699 for this huge laptop.
The gaming desktops offer significantly more performance than the laptops, as you’d expect, but they are more expensive because of it. At the lower end there’s the OP Gaming Desktop DTW1, which costs $ 1,399. For that you get a Core i7-8700, GeForce GTX 1070 with 6GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, 2TB hard drive, and 256GB SSD. Switching up to the DTW2 upgrades the graphics card to a GeForce GTX 1080 with 6GB VRAM, 32GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD, but it costs $ 1,899.
It’s not that much more to move to the DTW3, which costs $ 2,099. For the extra $ 200, you get a GeForce GTX 1080TI with 6GB VRAM. Everything else stays the same, so maybe it’s worth saving $ 200 and sticking with the very capable GTX 1080 in the DTW2.
All three laptops will be available from Nov. 14, but you can pre-order them and they will ship out on Nov. 9. The DTW1 and DTW2 gaming desktops launch on Nov. 14 as well, with the DTW3 launching Nov. 16, however, you can get it on Nov. 12 by paying for faster shipping. If you need a new gaming-grade router, Walmart has you covered with another exclusive in the form of the Jetstream AC3000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Gaming Router, which we found to offer solid performance.
